French authorities will start stopping migrant vessels in Channel following British demands

France has agreed to begin stopping migrant vessels in the English Channel, after months of pressure from the UK.

This policy shift comes after the British leader sent a letter to the President asking him to back the plan and saying there presently "have no effective preventive measure" in the Channel.

French security forces have been authorized to intercept the small boats at sea, but exclusively prior to they've collected their migrants, according to official confirmation.

French police have infrequently intervened to prevent the overcrowded boats leaving the shoreline because it is viewed as too great a danger to both personnel and individuals.

"It is essential that we deploy these methods this month... We have no effective deterrent in the Channel."

Currently, a French maritime police representative says personnel will start taking action at sea, with the aim of safeguarding lives.

Significantly, the official excluded the use of nets to stop boats, which had previously been reported as a possible technique to snarl the propellers of the vessels.

This determination to intervene at all is a major advancement, following a brief change towards a stricter approach this summer, which ceased when the previous Interior Minister left office.

This was demonstrated in July, preceding a meeting between the Prime Minister and French president, when French police were witnessed wading into the sea to damage the sides of a vessel.

Now French authorities will once more be permitted to intercept boats before they collect migrant passengers from the beaches of northern France, although it's not clear how the small boats will be prevented.

Powerful gusts are presently delaying the commencement of intervention operations and the people-smuggling networks will be seeking ways to adapt to avoid detection, as they have done so often in the previous instances.

UK immigration authorities and the Prime Minister's office have been contacted for comment.
